Information
Students will need access to the internet and/or books that contain medical information.
They will need a basic understanding of how diseases, genetic disorders, and other factors may cause serious declines in health including death. |
Activity
While many of the causes of death for the people buried at Oberlin Cemetery remain lost with time, students can still investigate diseases that were prevalent during the time in which a person was alive.
The teacher will provide each student with the name of a disease, genetic disorder, or give an outside factor (such as drowning) that may have affected people living in specific decades. Students will use reliable resources to research the cause and effect(s) of the illness/outside factor they were given. They will share their research with each other. The teacher can create a matching game where students compete to match the cause with its effect. |
